ABOUT

Tennessee Utility Education Corporation (TUEC) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation which operates a scholarship program designed to help college students finance their education in a field which is related to or can be used in the operation of public utilities.   This program honors the dedication and commitment of employees and officials who serve their communities in the water, wastewater, and natural gas industries throughout the State of Tennessee.  The scholarships awarded recognize individuals who are committed to the pursuit of excellence, sacrifice, and service to their communities.

AWARDS

Each year the TUEC will seek to award a minimum of four scholarships to eligible recipients in the amount to be determined by the Scholarship Committee to defray the cost of tuition, books, and room and board.  The four scholarships which TUEC plans to award annually are:

The Bob Freudenthal Scholarship

The Harold Clark Scholarship

The Henry Elrod Scholarship

The Sam Bruce Scholarship

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

The scholarship recipient will be selected on the basis of the number, length of commitment, and quality of leadership responsibilities in community and school activities, work experience, awards, honors, academic record, career goals, and financial need.

An eligible scholarship recipient must:

  • attend or plan to attend an accredited college or university and study a major which is related to or can be used by the student in the operations of a public utility.
  • be a full-time or part-time employee of a TAUD member;
  • be a dependent child or grandchild of a full-time or part-time† employee of a TAUD member;
  • be a member of the governing board of a TAUD member;
  • be a dependent child or grandchild of a member of the governing board of a TAUD member.
  • Deadline for submission is April 1st of each year

† Part-time employment means the employee has a permanent position, has worked more than one year for a TAUD member, and works more than 20 hours per week.
